Tribes Gold is purchased with real-world money to make in-game purchases of things like Classes, Weapons, voice packs or Perks.
Before the February 14th, 2013 patch, upon the first purchase of Tribes Gold a player could have his account upgraded to a VIP account which gains a permanent 50% increase in the amount of XP earned per match.
