Permafrost is a Capture the Flag map in Tribes: Ascend. It was introduced with the June 22, 2012 patch.

Layout[edit]

The map is divided into three main areas: the two bases on either side of the map, and the main mountainous area between them. This area is further divided into three parts: a central mountain with a dipping tunnel bored through the middle, and two valleys on either side, with high mountain ranges at the edge.

Flag Capturing

This map is similar in tactics to Sunstar. However, there is one key difference: no capper can make a flag run without stopping at the stand while the generator is online, as they will be blocked by the three shields guarding the flag. This means that generator offense and defense is a key part of the map.

Generator Offense

The generator is a key tactical point in this map, moreso than other maps. It should be a key focus of attacking Raiders and heavy classes. The generator is rather enclosed hidden in the gen room, which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Raiders can use the Grenade Launcher as well as their belt grenades to bounce off walls and hit the generator without having to step into the space. However, it can be far harder to spot incoming attackers in the smaller area, making it harder for Brutes and Juggernauts to attack the generator effectively.

Bugs[edit]

  • Dying while inside the large tunnel in the middle of the map will result in the ragdoll being catapulted out and through the tunnel walls at incredibly high speeds. The bug is demonstrated Here.
